What is One-Time Password (OTP)?
One-Time Password (OTP) is a security mechanism used to authenticate and verify the identity of users in various online transactions and systems.
It involves generating a unique password that is valid for only one login session or transaction, and it becomes invalid after it is used or after a specific time period. OTP provides an additional layer of security compared to traditional static passwords, as it adds an element of randomness and time sensitivity. This dynamic nature makes OTPs highly beneficial in preventing unauthorized access and reducing the risk of identity theft, phishing attacks, and password breaches.
Since OTPs are time-limited and unique for each session, even if an attacker manages to intercept the password, it becomes useless for subsequent attempts, enhancing the overall security posture of the system or service.
